The Islanders
The only elf tribe in the New Land until the arrival of the Wolfriders and by far the most technologically sophisticated of the tribes, the Islanders are descended from a group of Firstcomers who fled south after the crash of the Palace and eventually sailed to the New Land in crude ships, taking a small family of three proto-trolls with them. For roughly three thousand years the Islanders were the only elves in the New Land, and by working closely with the trolls they had brought with him, they developed their own unique culture.

Savin Skywise's Alternaverse lifemate, Savin is also Sun Girl's chief alter ego, and she and her family joined the Alternaverse shortly after its creation in that miserable anthropology class.
Savin is the daughter of Eastwaker and Gullwing. Proud of the technological advancements of her people, Savin was often uncomfortable with the primitive Wolfrider existence. Private in nature like all Islanders, she can find the open atmosphere in the Wolfrider tribe downright invasive. Very self-sufficent, she does not like to have to rely on anyone else for safety or the essentials of survival. In the early days with the Wolfriders she and Swift often clashed over what Swift saw as recklessness and Savin saw as independence. It's not that Savin is a loner - far from it. Her vision of "community" is simply very different from the Wolfriders.
The years she has spent with Skywise have seen Savin make her peace with many aspects of Wolfrider culture that remain baffling to her, and in turn the Wolfriders have - with some trepidation - adopted many of her people's inventions, and even a little of their laid-back outlook on life. While she has no magic, Savin is highly skilled in the herblore of the rainforest, and often serves as Rain's assistant in cases of minor injury.

Evergreen Savin's half-sister, Evergreen is the Speaker of Green Moon Bay, and the closest thing the Islanders have to a chief. As a member of Mura's line - a direct descendent of the Firstcomer - she is acknowledged as the supreme authority by all the different islands. Evergreen oversees the trade alliances and resolves disputes, but as all the Islanders know their parts to play, she rarely needs to intervene in conflicts. Evergreen spends most of her time at Green Moon Bay, supervising the day-to-day life in the port.
Evergreen took over as Speaker when her father Eastwaker stepped down. She quickly faced her first challenge when Eastwaker grew bored with retirement and set off to explore new lands with his lifemate and a small crew. But his ship never returned.
Evergreen was in a tempestuous relationship with the scribe Gale for many years, only to Recognize Noontide and become his lifemate. Evergreen bore Noontide a son, Treefrog, who grew up to become a pirate on the Lady Mura. Noontide drowned in a tragic accident, and several decades later, Gale and Evergreen Recognized. He was eager for a second chance, but too much time had passed for a smooth reunion, and it took many years before Evergreen accepted him as her lifemate. Their son, Skelter, became a pirate as well.
Evergreen welcomed the Wolfriders to Green Moon Bay - but made it very clear that they would have to respect Islander ways. Speaker for thousands of years now, Evergreen is the longest reigning leader of the Islands, and shows no signs of stepping down.

Loosestrife and Goldcinder Loosestrife is the son of Eastwaker and Cypress (full-brother to Evergreen, half-brother to Savin), and the Captain of the Lady Mura, the flagship of the Islander fleet. From the Mura, Loosestrife leads "raids" on the human encampments (actually ritualized exchange ceremonies) then trades his "booty" with the trolls and the other islands settlements. Loosestrife is the very embodiment of a pirate king: proud, mischievous, and willful. He looks down his nose at the other elfin tribes - especially the Wolfriders - considering them to be technologically backward. He also has little respect for magic, preferring to boast of the achievements has people have accomplished by hand. He is intensely protective of his family, especially his little sister Savin, and her descendents.
Wherever Loosestrife goes, he is accompanied by his lifemate and First Mate, Goldcinder. In fact, one could argue that Goldcinder is the real power on the Lady Mura. He keeps the ship maintained with his disciplined work-ethic, and Loosestrife's ego in check with well-timed sarcasm.

The Cove Folk
Some of the Wavedancers found their way into the Alternaverse as well. The Southern Coves are home to several small family groups of kelp-farmers and fishers. The level of technology is much lower, as these Islanders prefer a "back-to-nature" way of life. All Islanders are excellent swimmers, but many among the Cove Folk have developed limited selfshaping powers to increase lung capacity, develop fins on their ankles and wrists for added thrust in water, and even alter their legs into tails.

Wavecatcher In canon Elfquest, it is unclear where Wavecatcher fits into the Wavedancer family. In the Alternaverse, Wavecatcher is the son of Snakeskin and thus the grandson of Surge.
Yun's lifemate, Wavecatcher hails originally from Shark Cove. He went exploring some time before the Wolfriders arrived in the New Land, and was feared lost, as many Islanders who go exploring do not return. When Yun found Wavecatcher, he had travelled up the length of the Green River, was living in one of its tributaries, having had a vague feeling that something important was waiting for him. Yun and Wavecatcher first experienced a false Recognition, sharing soulnames but not conceiving a child. Nearly a millennium later, true Recognition struck them, and they had a son, Fisher.
Wavecatcher is very proud of his Cove Folk heritage, and takes offense when pirates belittle the Cove Folk as "fin-wrists." He launched his shipbuilding career after a bet with Loosestrife, and since then has build several ships for his family and his Wolfrider friends. Wavecatcher can easily selfshape a tail, and often swims instead of walks during the rainy season, when the Great Holt floods.
